How many times has the television been turned on, and every news channel displays a different act of violence, whether that be a school shooting, a robbery, or a car wreck? The media capitalizes on these events to enhance their ratings and get more attention, often glorifying violence in the process. Nowadays, school shootings seem to be a weekly event, higher than ever before, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). They record that in 2021-22 “public and private schools, spanning both elementary and secondary levels, incurred a total of 327 shootings - a record high” (Pilkington para. 2).
