Constitution Analysis The United States Constitution is a document that is over 200 years old which is still being put into practice within the United States of America. Its main goal is to set up a government where the people weren't controlled and had a voice by the actions being taken within the government. If something wanted to be changed an Amendment could be made which is an addition to the constitution that set up new laws for the changing times. There are a total of 27 Amendments which address issues from slavery to economics. But not one of these Amendments does anything to help a specific minority. Reservations are even allowed to have tribal sovereignty in the United States, where Native Americans can govern themselves within the borders of the United States of America. Even though most U.S. citizens have to follow federal, state, and local laws due to tribal sovereignty Native Americans only have to follow federal and tribal laws on reservations. This can be seen especially in the hunting and fishing. One example is that on reservations Native Americans are allowed to keep as many fish regardless of the size and method used to catch them. This upsets many non-indians, but nothing can be done since it all leads back to the Constitution. But besides this the constitution has done nothing to help Native Americans. Still many of them face problems including, poverty, education, rape, and substance abuse. Since the tribal government isn't big enough to handle these problems they would need either the states help or the federal government's help. But neither of them are willing to help which leads to the continuation of those problems. All of this just leads to the thoughts of Native Americans being less important, which then also can be shown in discrimination.
