There are many ways to ensure active listening. Most importantly it is important that you are focused and paying attention to what the speaker is saying. This is one key point that should be followed when actively listening to anyone, without this it is likely that points will be missed and not taken on board when thinking about how to respond to the speaker.
A second method of active listening is allowing people finish what they are saying without interrupting. Allowing the speaker to finish is not only polite but also ensures that all information has been passed over. It is important to make points clear and precise so that recipients understand what is being asked of. Verbally communicating information can be beneficial as it allows people to provide more information on specific topics, however it also means un-necessary language can be used which might make it more difficult for some people to pick out key points and information. Summarising verbal communication ensures that all points have been communicated and understood which in turn will mean feedback is relevant and tailored to the points that have been summarised.

Feedback is the final point of communication which helps us decide if information has been communicated in way that has been effective and understood. Going forward it helps point out what can be done better next time to improve further communication.
There are different ways of gaining feedback which all link back to communication with the initial recipient of the information. Examples of ways you can obtain feedback include;
