In today's world distracted driving is the main cause of accidents and deaths. The United States have passed laws to help prevent and stop teens from texting and driving, but it's not just texting that can distract a driver. Changing the song on your playlist, snap chatting and even checking social media can cause this terrible outcome. Some will disagree and say it's not the main cause of deaths and wrecks or that children are a bigger distraction than a cell phone but with the research done, it proves that texting and being on your phone is more of a distraction than a child in the backseat. Texting while driving is most common with teens but that does not mean adults do not partake in the dangerous act. Per Mary Madden's research, "73% of texting teens ages 16-17 have been in a car when the driver was texting. Half (52%) say they have been in a car when the driver used a cell phone in a dangerous way" (Teens & Distracted Driving). Not only does it put the driver in danger but Mary's research shows that it also puts the passengers in danger. Cars can be programmed to cut all phone connection unless of an emergency, the car can be all voice automated where all the driver has to-do is speak and not touch a button so the eyes are never off the road. Another solution is downloading the app OverWatch, this app prevents users from using the phone at the speed of fifteen miles per hour. It locks the phone completely until the user is under the speed or stopped. The app is very useful and highly recommended in all high schools. Texting and driving are dangerous and the most common but if the driver is distracted by anything from the radio, eating, talking to the passenger or using a map these can all cause a fatal accident.
