Does Canada need the monarchy? This is a very big question that Canadians have been faced with lately. Although the Queen does not have a very big role in what happens in Canada, but she does help us in some ways you may not have been aware of. If you do not believe we don’t need a Queen, I’m going to explain to you what the Queen does and why we as Canadians do not need a constitutional monarchy.

What does the Queen do for Canada? Being a constitutional monarchy and having a Queen doesn’t do a whole lot for Canada, and all she does is make things a little easier. We as Canadians are currently part of a constitutional monarchy and the only thing that really does for us is cost us more on our taxes. One of the main arguments for keeping the Queen is that there are a small amount of issues that have already been addressed by the Queen a long time ago. According to the governor general, we spend over 20.36 million dollars a year. It costs Canadians about $137,000 a day, just to have Duke and Duchess of Cambridge come visit us in Canada. It cost the RCMP about $2,000,000 to transport and protect the royal family when they came for a visit to B.C. and Yukon. That’s a lot of money given for people who don’t do anything for us, and a lot of police officers taken away from other crimes they may have had to respond too. This is too much money for us as Canadians to spend on a figure head. If we were to remove the monarchy, we would same over $20,360,000 a year. We would be able to use this money towards something productive for us as a country. With families that don't have enough in our country and a leader who doesn't have full control we have better things to be spending our money
