I was fresh faced to a new school; I had a lot of knowledge to build about the staff and students with whom I was going to work. My role that year was preparation delivery, so I would cover classes and give release time to teachers. One class I covered was for kindergarten physical education. Jane has cerebral palsy; she had an educational assistant who I will call Cathy (name changed) to help her during this class as she transitioned from her wheelchair to her walker during the gym class. Gym was twice a week, once after recess and once after lunch. The EA was outside with her during lunch in the kindergarten pen. The ECE (Early Childhood Educator) in the classroom informed me that the Cathy goes on lunch during gym. That lasted for about three weeks. …show more content…
My dilemma was how to deliver ethical treatment to both Cathy and Jane in my handling of this situation. Personally this arrangement didn’t sit right with me. Could it be an administrative scheduling error, or was Cathy taking advantage of the situation that I was a new staff member I went through many different scenarios in my mind and in the end the most ethical way to handle this situation was discretely and quickly. Jane morally deserved the help during this class to succeed. I approached the vise principal to inquire about the situation. She brought up Cathy’s schedule.
