In the mid-20th century, there were a lot of civil issues going on made legal by the current social system. The current laws segregated African-American people and other ethnic citizens by whites and colors. They separated housing, restaurants, schools, and even buses by color. However, citizens started fighting back. Martin Luther King organized peaceful protests, groups boycotted businesses, and even Rosa Parks challenged the segregated bus systems. The documents “Integrated Bus Suggestions” and “Negroes’ Most Urgent Needs” speak to what was going on during the time. Logos is seen in the reasoning used in a person’s writing “Negros’ Most Urgent Needs” uses logos in a variety of ways. First of all, this article uses the line stating having no sewage is leading to health problems (Montgomery Negroes). This is logos because it is stating that since action one is happening it is causing two. Additionally, the writing contains a line that says we wish to start singing from the back to the front until the bus is full (Montgomery Negroes). This line is logos because it would be logical to just fill the bus from the back causing less moving and commotion. In the second article “Integrated Bus Suggestions” there is no lack of logos. One, the line that states the bus is for everyone and to take an empty seat is logos (The Montgomery Improvement Association). This is because this line uses reasoning, saying because of one thing you can do another. Second, it happens in the line the bus driver is in charge he will help (The Montgomery Improvement Association). This is the case because they could assume the law has changed so the public worker should be following them. In closing, this article uses logos a lot more time. It uses logos in the lines saying do not do certain things because you know it is going to cause problems. The first example in “Negros’ Most Urgent Needs” is when the writers state that the delinquency of the areas is a result of the city (Montgomery Negroes). Most people get offended when being blamed for something going wrong so this is a stab at the cities personal values. Next example, is when the group is talking about they are not being allowed to expand causing them to not be able to have decent living quarters (Montgomery Negroes). This is pathos because no one want to live in run down houses, they want decent livable homes. In “Integrated Bus Suggestions” there was only one real use of pathos. This occurred when they talk about them being friendly, proud and joyous but not arrogant and don’t boast (The Montgomery Improvement Association). This is an example because there are saying yes have emotions just not ones that are bad and could put you in harm’s way. Last, when the group said do not curse back (The Montgomery Improvement Association). This is because they are saying we know you do not appreciate this action but don’t retaliate by doing the same exact
