Many people believe that ignorance is bliss, however ignorance causes there to be blind spots and gaps in people’s knowledge. These blind spots are what create global issues such as racism and sexism. When people are ignorant they are unwilling and afraid to change their opinion. Thus, an unjust society is often caused by the ignorance of those within it.
Everyone has blind spots, however some people have more significant ones, that can cause real problems. For instance, Mrs. Farrow believes that “‘We can educate 'em till we're blue in the face, we can try till we drop to make Christians out of 'em, but there's no lady safe in her bed these nights’”(Lee, 236). She obviously is too ignorant to learn that skin color alone doesn’t make anyone
