“Before I can live with other folks, I’ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience” (Lee). The first time I read this quote it was hard to comprehend. So to help me respond to this quote I am going to break it down; part by part. My feelings on the quote when I read it the first time was you must be able to handle how you and other people see things differently. This means that you must be able to handle what is wrong or what is right, another way could be that you need to know how you see things could be much different than what other people's point of view is. The main part of the middle part is majority rule. Majority rule is another way to vote, yet depending on which category gets the highest rank is the way you go. Likewise you could also say that majority rule for example is the crowd in society and that people will follow along with the crowd instead of doing what they believe is right and what is wrong.

The last part of the quote “... is a person’s conscience” (Lee). Therefore a person’s conscience is an inner feeling or voice inside you saying what is wrong and what is right. Some people struggle trying to listen to their conscience and some people stay with the crowd doing what everyone else is doing. However listing to your conscience may be the best way to go, it could possibly keep you out of trouble.

In conclusion, the quote “Before I can live with other folks, I’ve got to live with myself. In addition the quote “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view” (Lee) is very similar to the quote before.
