Office Layout

Office efficiency can be improved if thought is given to:

* adequate lighting – preferably natural light which enters from behind the left shoulder

* furniture arranged so that those things most often used are closest at hand

* right-handed people place the telephone on the left-hand side. Left-handed people should place the phone on the right.

* a desk kept clear of all but current work

Equipment and furniture should be regularly checked to ensure that it is in good repair and that the necessary maintenance is carried out.

Telephone Procedure

The way in which telephone calls are received and handled reflects on the business as a whole. Good impressions are created when you:

* answer the phone promptly

* identify yourself and your office

* speak clearly

* record all messages
