Topic: Against gay marriage
General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience that gay marriage is not the way God intended marriage to be.
Central Idea: God intended marriage to consist of one man and one woman. Any marriage other than one man and one woman is an abomination.

Attention Getter: I’m sure everyone has heard the saying “God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” Well, there is Biblical scripture to back that up. God intended on marriage to be one man and one woman. In our society today, what God intended to happen is being replaced with “human rights”.

Credibility Statement: From the time I was old enough to acknowledge the difference between boys and girls until now, my parents and grandparents have always taught me right from wrong and that gay marriage is wrong. Some people call it an opinion, but you can find scripture on gay marriage in the Bible, so I call it a fact.

A. In Genesis chapter 2 verses 22-24 the scripture reads: Then the LORD God made woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and they will become one flesh. (Bible. Genesis. 2. 22-24.)

II. There are many states in the U.S. that ban gay marriage. However, there are several states that have legalized gay marriage.

A. In 2004, Massachusetts was the first state in the U.S. to legalize gay marriage. Since 2004, eight more states legalized gay
