Giles Corey is the main protagonist in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, with such bravery and strength he’s both physical and mentally, and will risk it all to succeed in court. Because she has had an affair with John Proctor, she will do anything to avoid punishment. As a result, Giles is a protagonist who helps to stop the hysteria with his strenght of character by resisting to keep his land. Giles Corey is a very arguementive and subborn, but yet innocent. He should end up in court where he collects “four pound damages” from John Proctor is “publicialy sayin’” he burned his roof. Somehow it got out that Giles wife was reading books other than the Bible, which is considered part of witchcraft so she would be executed. Giles tells Cheever “you’ll burn for this too”. Walcott also believes that she does witchcraft, because he brought a pig from her and it died.
He and is wife is now going to court. “I have been to court 33 times now” Since he has experience in court,Giles ability is to win an argument. He has been to court 33 times now he’s confident that if he goes a 34th time he’ll win. “A fart on Thomas Putnam”. Putnam is telling lies and Giles is fed up with it, also Giles is very angry and frustrated Putnam and he simply wants him to stop lying. “I know my right, sir and I will have them”. He knows the court and laws well, he does not want to back down from anybody and he is willing to go to court over it.
“More weight ” Giles would rather die than have his property taken. Giles is very stubborn, but he knows his rights; he let himself be killed in order for his children to have land. “He couldn’t answer aye or naye“ it shows how nobly and strong he is.
