Gun control is one of the most divisive topics in America. Both sides push their arguments strongly and are quick to judge and defend their reasoning. In a world saturated with evil, how did firearms become the culprit of blame? When evil resides in man’s heart, the firearm is not at fault. When mass shootings result in innocent lives lost, our immediate response is to find something - rather than someone, to blame for such tragedy. Unfortunately, until we address the real issue – the heart of mankind, we will never resolve the underlying problem.
The topic of gun control is guaranteed to ruffle feathers amongst most any crowd. Instantly there will be some that are for gun control, yearning for lawmakers to outlaw the purchase of firearms.

Playing on the viewer’s emotions rather than pure factual logic will always result in a knee-jerk reaction, void of reason. Gun control, they say needs to be mandated, that if America tightened their laws on firearm purchasing, it would be more difficult for a murderer to get their hands on a deadly weapon. The downside of this thinking is that the liberal media wants the viewers to believe that mass shooters can be identified before they strike. Furthermore, like most events, one does not present and broadcast their intent to do harm until it is already done. Death rates and statistics are never a comfortable or enjoyable subject to address, however it the truth must be acknowledged, because statistics are what will ultimately separate perception from reality. Data obtained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and analyzed by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center shows that gun deaths have been in an overall decline for more than twenty years, down thirty-one percent since 1993. Contrastingly, fifty-six percent of Americans thought that gun-related killings have increased over this same period. (COOPER? 15?). Approximately 11,000 Americans every year are shot to death. While this number sounds astoundingly high, twice that number – 22,000 Americans commit suicide by gunshot. Contrastingly, the Centers for Disease Control reports that 75,000 Americans die each year from HA-I, or Healthcare Associated Infections – patients that did not have a terminal disease and were killed by lethal bacteria in hospitals. Life is sacred and life is fragile, however the statistics presented above do not lie, and for firearms to take the blame for death in America makes as much sense as blaming spoons for making people
