According to the Head Start Associations facts and impacts webpage they list some of the following statistics and impacts: Preschool age children who were obese, overweight, or underweight and who participated in Head Start had a significantly healthier BMI by kindergarten entry than control children (Lumeng et al., 2015), Head Start children have a higher likelihood of graduating high school, attending college, and receiving a post-secondary degree, license, or certification (Bauer et al. 2016), Compared with matched children who were in parental care before kindergarten, Head Start children performed considerably better on cognitive measures (Zhai et al., 2011). In examining the nature and scope of measuring the Head Start Program and associated research and literature, with from this perspective: Head Start (HS) serves at least 90% families at the federal poverty level or below, they are responsible for instituting criteria so that children in families with greatest needs in communities are served, and recruiting of 10% of youth with disabilities is required.
