The Writing Process

When asked to do a research paper we often think “where should I begin?”. We start to question ourselves on how to start summarizing our thoughts onto paper. Trying to figure out what to write for an essay can be a very frustrating process for most of us, but it does not have to be that way. We know what we want to say or talk about, however, it takes some time to put it onto paper. For example, when I have to write an essay for class, I feel anxious because I never know how to start my paper off or what I want to talk about. I have a lot of thoughts running through my head to a point that I feel pressured to list them all and then I start to lose focus. The writing process is approached from various angles. In the writing process it is often diverse from person to person, but it is one of the ways a person may be expressed. Perl goal of the study was to "see how unskilled writers write, can their writing processes be analyzed in a systematic, replicable manner? And what does an increased understanding of their processes suggest about the nature of composing in general and the manner in which writing is taught in the schools?" (Perl 740). With Perl doing this observation and collecting a lot of data, I decided to do an observation on my writing process by paying more attention to how I write. While analyzing I have realized my writing process is very different. I have also noticed that many acts of planning and editing are carried out through my writings and it has a negative effect on majority of my writings. As I was critiquing my writing I came to realize every individual has a different way of writing. Just as Alcir Santos Neto said, “Each writer, skilled or unskilled, has a unique composing process. But what are the characteristics in my writing process? In order to acquire credible results, a natural setting was used in order to minimize the negative impacts of conducting a study in a laboratory environment, such as unnatural distractions” (Neto
