The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer is a very interesting read and I would suggest teenagers and adults alike should read this book. The House of the Scorpion takes place in a strange future in a country called Opium, a country dividing America and Aztlán (Mexico). Specifically the Alacrán estate, over a span of many years. Matteo (Matt) Alacrán is struggling with being accepted, because he is a clone, but nobody can get rid of him because he is the clone of the powerful drug lord, El Patrón. Matt Alacrán is a clone of a powerful drug lord even though he hasn’t always known about it. IN his early years of age he was isolated into a small house in the poppy fields with Celia who acts like a mom but refuses Matt to think of her that way.
