Though we have showers and bottles of water, have you ever stopped to think about how ancient civilizations survived? Back then, they didn’t have a good way to get food, water, or other necessities. If it wasn’t for rivers, civilizations called “River Civilizations,” which are civilizations that rely mainly on rivers, would be doomed. One of such civilizations were the Egyptians with their river, the Nile River. The Nile River was very important to the Ancient Egyptians because it influenced agriculture, created a boundary for safety, and was a highway for travel and trade. The Nile influenced agriculture in multiple ways. The first way was through the process of flooding. In paragraph 7 of “A sheltered Land,” it says, “Winds from the North push sailboats South. The flow of the Nile carried them North.” This greater builds on the idea that the Nile was used for transportation, which also builds upon the idea of trade because you need to transport materials to trade.
