Where was the Empire, both its origin and the largest extent it reached?
The Swedish empire covered the northern and eastern part of present day scandinavia, went around the Gulf of Bothnia and along the gulf of finland. This caused the Baltic to almost be a Swedish lake. It also had an african and american colony during its empire.
Development of Sweden as a great power can be divided into 3 sequences: 1560s- northern Baltic Region was incorporated, early 1600s- northern germany and more of the baltic region, 1650s- southernmost land areas were obtained.

The Reformation occurred in Sweden during the 1520s and from the 1500s to 1800s religious conformation and uniformity was maintained by the state.
Gustav Vasa set the “foundations of swedish state” and led protestant reformation that would continue to impact Sweden long after his reign.

How long did the empire last?
The Swedish empire was an established world power approximately between 1525 and 1660. These dates are not absolute, as I took into account multiple different sources and approximate the different start and end dates.
“Experienced an era of importance, influence and expansion.” -Byron J. Nordstrom in The History of Sweden. This salient era ended by Sweden’s defeat in the great northern war. Sweden’s economy also depended heavily on farming and lacked many of the resources to continue its empire.

Sweden was therefore was thinking globally about their empire and looking to take it to the next level by colonizing new lands overseas.

What was special about your empire?
Although the Swedish empire resulted from war and many people died for the empire, there were also many good aspects. For example, Sweden’s first newspaper arises, entitled “Ordinari Post Tijdender”, it covered information about the battles and wars occurring and propaganda. This newspaper continues to be published today. The oldest existing national bank, “Riksbank Sweden”, was also founded and Sweden began to fully expand its national trading routes.
The Swedish opened up a coastal fort in Africa and started a colony in the Americas, nicknamed “New Sweden”. These were both attempts to join the national trade economy. Many of the colonists of new Sweden chose to stay in America after 1655 when they were defeated by the Dutch.
