The novel If I Stay by Gayle Forman was all about appreciating the little things in life. Mia is a young high school girl who is gifted when it comes to playing the cello. One winter day, school was cancelled from all the snow. What started out as a happy day with no school, quickly changed into the worst day of Mia’s life. Mia and her family were driving down the road listening to Beethoven when another car slipped on the icy road and crashed into their car. Mia wakes up on the side of the road unaffected and confused as to what is going on. She begins to look around when she notices the horrible accident in front of her and the paramedics rushing to rescue Mia covered in blood, unconscious. As Mia stands over herself glaring at what’s in front of her, she becomes overwhelmed and freaked out. As she arrives at the hospital she is rushed into surgery where a nurse tells her, that she has to fight to stay alive. Mia …show more content…
Throughout the entire novel, Mia faces an internal conflict, should she stay or should she go? She knows that if she were to stay that she would become an orphan, be in a tremendous amount of pain, and a long road of recovery was to come. If she were to go, all of the suffering would end and she would rest in peace. The decision she makes is not made lightly. She goes back and forth on what would be best for her. One event that persuades her to go is knowing that her brother is now dead. She is now all alone with no family. This pushes Mia over the edge and she starts to go until a familiar voice pulls her out of it. This familiar voice is Adam. Adam is Mia’s rock band boyfriend. He was touring with his band when he heard the news that Mia was in a horrific accident. At this point they were broken up, but their love for eachother never faded. Mia now has a reason to
