The history again shows us the greediness in human nature can blind people’s eyes, make people do anything unscrupulously for their own benefits, and make people become conceited. Although some people may think Indians were savages that white Americans could legitimately annihilated them for their own sake, this document shows contrast between the reasonable Indian’s chiefs who sought for peaceful solutions and the avaricious white people who ignored the peace talk and massacred the Indians brutally and irrationally.

Because of the pursuit of gold, a multitude of white people thronged to the Indians’ territories. The elder chiefs who tried to settle the issues by peaceful means got the American flag to ensure the peace and set up camp at Sand Creek, which had been promised as a “safe zone”. However, Chivington came to take over their lands, although he saw the flying flag, the command to attack the village had been made. Thus, the agreement had been breached for the sake of desires.

The invasion by Americans did not only occupy the territories, but also cause a lot of death amongst Indians. The Americans indiscriminately slaughtered the Indians, such as children, women, and elderlies. It was so ironic that those Americans who were calling Indians “savages” were the ones that were merciless and self-seeking because they were driven by their desires for a big fortune. Furthermore, the Americans did not think what they did would do anything with wrong, instead they justified themselves and described their brutal action as a “remarkable feat” because of its heavy
