During the Second Industrial Revolution, wages and working conditions were so terrible that workers began to join together and strike. Many Americans are subjected to working in cramped, unsafe workspaces and stuffy air. They were also receiving meager pay for the long hours they had to work. In 1892, employees who worked at Andrew Carnegie’s Homestead steel factory protested Carnegie’s plan to buy new machines and replace their jobs. This strike, which is called the Homestead strike, ended in violence when “gunfire erupted.when Pinkerton detectives hired by the company tried to enter the plant”.
