Media in Politics
Today, media sources are at an all-time high in both outreach and influence on their audiences. For the majority of people, politics is something that is mainly observed through media sources, rather than directly. The whole idea of news media, as it relates to politics, is to allow people to have easier access to what is going on in the political world, and to make it easier for them to participate in political decisions. However, with the plethora of media sources today, media is often used to manipulate political issues. Different media sources will often twist words or show biases to promote one candidate or political view over another to their respective audience. Many times that a person sees a media source regarding politics, it is trying to influence their opinion in some way. An obvious example of this would be seeing a television commercial promoting Hillary Clinton and her views, while bashing decisions and views of Donald Trump. This commercial is clearly trying to sway voters to vote for Hillary Clinton as president. I believe that most media sources that are viewed today are similarly trying to sway voters to one side, even though it might not be as obvious as the example above. Whether a media presentation is twisting and manipulating information and presenting it as facts, or simply promoting the good parts of one candidate while consciously leaving out the bad, it is trying to influence its voters. In my opinion, media has already had a significant impact on the 2016 presidential election, and will continue to as the election
