Haiti, a Caribbean country found in North America, is suffering from a major problem. The problem is malnutrition. For decades, Haiti has been suffering from malnutrition. Malnutrition is defined as a lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat. Now, although this terrible condition may not be well known in the United States, the country of Haiti knows it well. Cycles of natural disasters with little time to recover, on top of poor, minimal farmland. Generational starvation and malnutrition experienced by the Haitian people needs to be eradicated for the well-being and the future of Haiti.

We can do this by using a peanut-based treatment called Medika Mamba. Medika mamba is an energy-dense micronutrient paste, made using peanuts, sugar, milk powder, oil, vitamins, and minerals. The treatment takes around six to eight weeks with a success rate of 90 percent. The St. Joseph clinic started the Medika Mamba program in 2008. Along with all the benefits of Medika Mamba, it is also only $100 a package. Now, although this may seem expensive, 100 dollars is a small price to pay to save the life of a child. Medika Mamba gives the kids a chance to live a good life, saving them from the life-altering effects of malnutrition. Severe malnutrition is a major cause of childhood death in Haiti, so much so that one in 14 will die before reaching age five (Treating Childhood Malnutrition). If we support this program through groups like Hands Up for Haiti and many more, we can lower these death rates, putting a huge dent in Haiti's malnutrition
