I, as a student and member of Smithville marching band, I believe that Marching band should be a physical education credit. Doing so would be just and convenient, as well as logically correct. Marching bands are the spirit and soul of their local school and they should be honored with a physical education credit.

To start off, our Smithville High School band begins their day 45 minutes earlier than any other class, including all other physical education credits scheduled on the same blocks. Almost all of that time is taken by fundamental or fieldwork time(i.e. Marching in straight lines and guiding with instruments). Using power walking as a reference, marching band does roughly equal to more cardio activity as well as respiratory endurance
