What is a marching band? What do they do for a living? Marching Band is a dynamic and exciting musical ensemble that combines music, movement, and visual elements to create a captivating performance. In a marching band, musicians play instruments while marching in intricate formations on a field or parade route. This unique art form requires precision, teamwork, and dedication from all members. Marching bands have a color guard that is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rif, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movements. The oldest American college marching band, The University Of Notre Dame Band, was founded in 1845.

Each section of the band brings a new element to each song being played. For starters, you will have one to four drum majors who conduct the music. That's how you keep the tempo with the use of a baton or other forms of time-keeping, such as conducting. Now you have your four sections, the woodwind family of instruments includes, from the highest sounding instruments to the lowest.
