Personal Responsibility Essay

Thesis: Without holding yourself responsible you cannot succeed in obtaining a college degree, because accountability is the foundation to educational success

In writing my paper I will define personal responsibility and what it means to me. I will further explain the relationship between responsibility and college success as well as having a plan and how to use to by setting goals and being focused. I will also be explaining obstacles to overcome and avoiding temptations along the way.

What personal responsibility means to me is taking responsibility for your actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions and understanding that what you do impacts those around you and your environment. Responsibility must be shared by those who for decades have coddled criminals in the justice system and who for decades have refused to treat the mentally ill with any sort of system. (Saint Paul, Minn).

By being responsible for your own actions, I have to make sure as a student that I am capable for my own attendance, finishing my assignments and projects, participating in class discussions, reading and studying material for the course and preparing for tests.

Being responsible is motivating yourself into taking charge of the situation that comes at you. Taking the lead is a huge step forward in accomplishing your goal. You are your own boss and you must turn to yourself to get the job done.

Being proactive means thinking and acting ahead of time and schedule. For example, " Proactive behavior involves acting in advance of a future situation, rather than just reacting. It means taking control and making things happen rather than just adjusting to a situation or waiting for something to happen. (”Proactive. (2013) The way I approach my time is having a schedule and creating a calendar with due dates and deadlines. Even with a busy schedule during the week, you must be able to organize everything from most important to least so that you allow yourself to stay on pace.

When you’re being accountable for your actions you will succeed in school. Accountability can mean to define your goals such as assignments and projects, exploring all of your choices and options. For example "An obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions” (Accountability. (2013). To double-check my answers, re-read the material, and asking myself if there is there another way of solving a problem. Taking time to consider the consequences is very important in making your decision.

Having a relationship between responsibility and success is the foundation to a college education. You can’t do well in school if you’re giving in to obstacles and temptations. To have a clear mind and not isolating yourself from others who are supportive such as family and friends. You must overcome everything around you, so that you are focused only on college and nothing else. You are responsible for your own path, only you can pave the way. Having a plan is very important for setting your goals and staying focused.

When you manage your time well everything else falls into place. My average day can consist of going to work, doing chores around the house and going to school. These are three things I deal with everyday. If I have something that is due that day I put my chores aside and finish that first before going back to them. These priorities come first for me no matter what the situation may be.

A good way of managing your time is through a calendar, from setting appointments, due-dates, homework, projects and deadlines.

Always know when exactly your deadline is, this will help you prepare ahead of time and
