Did you know that 75% of teenagers go to school tired? "Studies have shown that teens need 8.5 hours of sleep,"says Justin O' Neil in his article Should School Start Later?,"Most teenagers don't get enough sleep."(20) School should start later. There are a large number of reasons why I feel this way. Some of these reasons are that students can participate in a lot more extracurricular activities after school, students tend to show better grades when school starts late, and that less students are late to school. First of all, lots of students often have a lot of extracurricular activities and homework, so they don't have enough to time. As a result, they have to stay up late to complete their work. It isn't their fault that they have to stay up late. Schools often support after school activities. They should also push their starting time forward. This will also get students to start participating in after school activities. Now they would not worry about having to stay up late and getting to school early anymore. Teachers should also give less home work if they want to keep the same school starting time for students. To continue, students tend to show better grades when school starts late. The advantages of students getting better grades, students participating in more extracurricular activities, and a lot of students not coming late to school are worth delaying the starting time. Students should never, in their life, fall behind in studies. Although changing school starting times can have difficulties like changing the bus driver's schedule, these problems can be overcome by using a little bit of creativity like pushing back the school starting times of every school that that bus goes to.
