Introduction to the Organization
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, or PPFA, works to provide health care, sex education and information “to women, men, and young people worldwide,” (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, n.d.). The foundation of Planned Parenthood was born in 1916, when Margaret Sanger, a relative pioneer in the field of healthcare made birth control available to women (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, n.d.). She was consequently jailed for this act as it was illegal to discuss or disperse any birth control options at the time. 18% of the expenses from the organization went to non-medical program services, 13% to management and general support, 64% to medical services and 5% to fundraising. These expenses included items such as domestic programs in medical services, renewing leadership and refreshing the brand, as well as supporting services in fundraising or other management. Overall, the national office listed expenses at 235 million, while the affiliates listed 1,085.4 million. Including a public image with younger representation does not mean, though, that the only users of the organization services should be those newly shown. When moving the representation from an older generation to that of the millennials, it may be an obvious transition to focus only on that new group. A more positive change, though, could be including other groups to the healthcare options provided by the PPFA and its affiliates. That is, the organization could work to move the services from those that predominantly help young men and women and advocate for how their provided items could also benefit middle-aged men and women. There can be increased literature and presentations into how the preventative care could impact those still in reproductive points of their health, as well as how the services could help their family members or prospective future generations. The aim, then, is not just for those new to the healthcare world, but is noted as an ever growing need for care
