Prenatal Smoking During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is an important stage in the development of human life. The physiological and physical development of the fetus is greatly determined by the activities of the mother during this first nine months, which happen to take place in the mother’s womb. Whatever is consumed by the mother somehow also ends up in the fetus’ system and can greatly determines its development. Substance and/or drug usual during pregnancy is widely recognized as a major public health concern with harmful effects on both mother and the unborn child. Many countries in the world try as much as possible to control this and safe the unborn fetus.
For the purpose of this peer review I will consider the following articles; “Mental health treatment needs among pregnant and postpartum woman/girl entering substance abuse treatment”, and “Relationship of maternal smoking during pregnancy with criminal arrest and hospitalization of substance abuse in male and female adult offspring”.

(Brennam, Grekin, Mortensen, & Mednick 2002.). In this study the problems of maternal prenatal smoking and how it affect the male and female offspring are greatly elucidated. There had been evidence which suggested that maternal prenatal smoking might have been particularly related to antisocial behaviors which may include conduct disorder, delinquency, fighting, and hyperactivity. These were not evidence based and therefore could not standard scientific argument.
