In order to get ahold of racial profiling there should be adequate training for officers not only throughout their initial training, but throughout their careers. A person can never have enough training on such an important ongoing issue. Officers should get out in their communities and get involved in ways to help stop racial profiling. Being active in the community other than patrolling it is an essential way to have an overall understanding of the kind of dynamic it has. Another strategy would be to have sensitivity training that focuses on helping officers put aside their personnel views on people of color in order to perform their job in the most ethically way possible. Additionally, if an officer is investigated for racial profiling and found guilty that officers should be held fully accountable for their actions. Officers who are actively in their assigned community can get a better sense of who is actually committing crimes. In this step, I would have officers team up and patrol different communities in order to put their training into effect. Training officers how not to racially profile can be a hard task to accomplish because everyone has different opinions on what it is to racially profile. By providing laws and regulations along with wrongful incidences to fellow officers can help to open their eyes to the situation.
