Love. It can lead to happiness or tragedy. Love has led to the downfall of many important people throughout time and has been a common theme in many novels. One such example is in the play Romeo and Juliet which is possibly one of the most famous tragedies in existence. Written about the love of a young couple from rival families, the story tells of how two young teenagers fall in love and devise a plan to run away together. However, whilst Romeo is away the plan goes awry and results in the death of both. For decades it has been argued over who is to blame for their deaths. Romeo cannot go to her house due to the large conflict between his family and hers which he ignores in the process. Romeo’s exile and the mistakes that transpired as a result were caused by Romeo’s refusal to adhere to societal guidelines. Instead of talking to Juliet’s father about marrying her, Romeo asks Juliet’s nurse to assist in the marriage. In a conversation between the two of them Romeo says, “Bid her devise Some means to come to shrift this afternoon; And there she shall at Friar Laurence's' cell, be shrived and married”(Romeo 2.4.184-186). Romeo’s foolish decision to not tell the Capulets about their marriage leads to problems with the two. To start, the two must sneak around and when the two spent the night together he must sneak out before her mother comes in. Also, Romeo’s secrecy leads to issues between him and Tybalt in the town square. Tybalt confronted Romeo about his attendance to the Capulet’s party, to which he was not invited, and they fight and Romeo kills Tybalt.
