Since The Book Thief is a historical fiction text, the fictitious characters interact in a realistic WWII setting in Germany. Three characters in the book,Rudy , Max, and Liesel develop their identities within the parameters of the Nazi controlled society. However, if Rudy, Max, and Liesel were characters in today's society, their lives would be different.

The characters Rudy, Max, and Liesel have many different characteristics and personality traits. Such as, in the movie Rudy is blonde, skinny and is racist without realizing it. He is also has a protective trait over Liesel, for example he is standing up for her and gets seen as a best friend to her. Max, is a very sketchy character at first because no one knows who he is or where he is from or why he’s there. But, when you get to know his character more you can see he is caring, sweet, and what i can tell he is almost like an older brother to Liesel. Now, we have come to our third character. Liesel, is a mysterious girl who in the beginning is not smart at all, she cant read and is not doing well in school, and she is also a little shy or untrusting.
