Application Paper #1 In the past two weeks, I have learned small group interactions, communication processes, and relevant factors in relation to small groups. Most of the communication skills discussed in the book are directed to group interaction. According to Tubbs (2012), small group communication refers to interactions among three or more people.
Group Development
During group formation, associating new relationships and tasks through initial interactions placed the foundation for group activities. These states explained as “storming” which the group implements their roles and ideas to fit into the group building. Norming” is the time groups are more stable and leads to more formal structure and agreement. Now, groups compromise and reach the agreement on their goals.
Characteristics of Small Groups Different groups have different features, which fulfill different purposes, and can tip to positive, neutral or negative experiences. In this class, while our primary interactive relationships focused on building small groups, they regularly focused on completing their work or reaching their goals. We have formed five groups in this class that focus on completing group assignments. These are examples of small groups that would all have a different size, structure, identity, interaction, and goal pattern (Tubbus, 2012, p. 7). In addition, …show more content…
When groups grow more than fifteen people, it becomes more difficult to consider a small group. Tubbus (2012), suggests between three to twelve people considers as a small group (p. 7). The study shows unique connections between members of small groups. As a small group works well together than a large group, the number of group members should be limited to those necessary to accomplish the goal or to fulfill the purpose of the group. “Small groups can create solutions and processes that are much more complex than the work of only one group member” (Tubbus, 2012, p.
