Homelessness is worldwide and more and more people become homeless each day. Many people fail to see the dangers homeless people witness everyday. Almost all people think that only “druggies” or “dropouts” are the only people affected when in all reality people lose their homes for many reasons. We need to stop stereotyping these people as a whole and look at each situation individually. The first thing we need to do as a community is to admit there is a problem. Homelessness is a serious problem. Many things contribute to homelessness. Jobs are decreasing, school costs are skyrocketing, spouses dying, or even a child running away from home. Not all homeless people are drug addicts. “Homelessness is primarily an economic problem, and is also affected by a number of social and political factors.(Hunger and Homelessness, 5).” Just in the past year poverty has rose by 13.2%. Volunteering is the most important and helpful thing you can do. Without volunteers there is nobody to run housing for homeless or kitchens to feed people in need. Volunteers work together and offer so many resources. Housing is the big issue.
