During college, undergraduates are looking to find themselves. Many students have just left the care of their parents and are now forced to take care of themselves. Through out this time of care, students tend to find exactly what they care about. When they find what they care about they want to be reminded of that in their day-to-day lives. Surveys show that students see tattoos as a form of art and self-expression. College students get tattoos to express themselves. When choosing a tattoo, college students spend more time developing what exactly they want to carry around with them for the rest of their existence. These students want to choose something that carries a story and carries meaning; they also consider the placement when choosing. …show more content…
Before getting a tattoo many must first consider their own work environment. Johnson shares his point of view with readers, “Although tattoos are becoming more widely accepted in society, in some arenas of the professional world tattoos are still frowned upon or deemed to be unprofessional. Students, both with tattoos and those without tattoos, tend to view tattoos as normal or "mainstream" and agree that tattoos are found on many people today (Johnson, Manuel, Sheehan, 2007).” On one hand many people want others to know about their passions, which cause them to put there tattoos in a noticeable spot while others often consider the placement of the tattoo due to jobs and the employers views. Studies show that those with visible tattoos are less likely to be hired compared to those with hidden or no tattoos (Johnson).
