In recent years, texting while driving has become even more of an issue in many parts of the United States. It was always an issue, but it has recently grown into a bigger issue. Texting while driving never ends well and can have serious consequences, such as injuring bystanders and property damage. First of all, when people text and drive, the risk of hitting bystanders increases. According to Wilson Kehoe Winingham, "One in every five people involved in distracted vehicle accidents were not in a vehicle,"(“Dangers of Texting and Driving.”). The more people look at their phones, the more likely they are to hit a bystander. People who text and drive increase the risk of hitting a bystander. Secondly,if people text and drive, property can be damaged or lost completely. Carly Habos says, "Even if no one is hurt, you can damage your car, be sued, or your insurance can go up,"(What Are the Dangers of Texting While Driving). You could lose a lot of money, even if you are not physically hurt. This can be severely damaging to your property. Drew Gula says,"Property damage pays for the other person's car, buildings, lampposts, and government property,"(Property Damage Liability: What It Is and How It Works). You could have to pay for many other pieces of property, even if it doesn't belong to you.
