Facing and overcoming the unpleasant obstacles in life we face day to day can be a difficult challenge. We can grow and become independent by drawing on inner strength to face our challenges so that our fears won't consume us. 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' is a novel written by Mark Haddon it is about a fifteen year old boy, Christopher Boome who has aspergers syndrome. Christopher's aspergers syndrome makes understanding humans and becoming independent a difficult challenge. At the start of the novel Christopher is controlled by his aspergers, this affects every part of his daily life. Christopher writes a book about the murder of a dog, but it is not just about the mystery of who killed Wellington but a journey Christopher embarks upon to face and to overcome his unique challenges. Christopher Boome wants to be independent but because of his condition, it makes this a difficult task. When Wellington is killed Christopher takes the initiative to find out who the murderer despite his Fathers wishes. This is a sign of Christopher's growing independence and that he wants to make his own decisions. 'So I decided for myself what I am going to do and what I am not going to do'. From this Christopher shows us that he has taken this challenge (to become independent) and conquers this obstacle. To reinforce this opinion the narrator uses personal pronouns to reinforce control and a sense of purpose. The composer also reinforces this by highlighting his desire to be independent by using 'I'. The audience begins to see Christopher growing more and more independent because of this the readers want to see Christopher learn to become independent.
