Voting is important because we as Americans are the holders of our fate in deciding who runs our local, state and federal governments. There was a time when this was not the case. Many lives have been lost leading up to the Revolutionary War in the Eighteenth century, which started over taxation without representation and continued through the Twentieth century when the last class of people, women, were granted the right to vote. Before the birth of our Nation, those called Patriots knew the leadership style of the British was one without representation of the people. To be told what to do without having any input is wrong. These forms of government are called dictatorships. Dictatorships instill fear and harbor resentment in those expected to follow their leader blindly. Our Declaration of Independence provided our freedom from that type of government. Our country is important and should be cared for and we as Americans should care for who runs it. People have lost their lives to provide everyone the right to vote. We should put in the time to look after and care for our country by voting for who runs it. For those who say “Voting doesn’t even matter in the long run.” Voting does matter. Each individual vote provides guidance to the Electoral College who ultimately cast the votes for each state. Voting ensures the future of America and it ensures the rights and privileges an American has later. It ensures the future of America, moreover, it decides what the future of the next generation is going to be. We are able to form the future just by filling out a sheet of paper and taking out at most 30 minutes of our day to vote. 30 minutes is a small price to pay in order to ensure the future of our
