"Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present." In the short story, The Scarlet Ibis, the narrator is a superior brother. Definitely in some parts of this short story there were moments that made me think he was an inferior brother. After I finished reading the whole short story, my mind completely changed. This story certainly changed my opinion on life and how I am going to live it.
The first reason the narrator, the most important reason, was a spectacular brother was because he did not let his brother suffer. The mother of the two boys was always worried and would limit Doodle's curiosities, and there was a cause of that. However, the main question to consider is whether you would have a short but best life or a long and suffering life? The narrator certainly let his brother have risk, fun, and certainly let Doodle's curiosity run. My main point out of all of this is you only live once and take advantage of that.

At age three, Doodle still was crawling around, and typically at age three you should be walking, running, and jumping. Therefore, the narrator took his place as the big brother and helped him day after day to walk. However, the short story stated that the narrator was doing it for himself so he wouldn't have a handicapped brother. Rereading that part of the story, they never stated why. Possibly because he wanted Doodle to be able to do brotherly things with him and be able to run through Old Woman Swamp just like the narrator was able to do.
