“Making Sarah Cry” and “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” both have the same theme. The theme that they both share is being different because in both stories the main character(s) are unlike the rest of the people. In “Making Sarah Cry” it is used since Sarah is unlike the boys. But in “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” it is used because the Watsons are a different skin color. But they both show the theme in a different way. In “Making Sarah Cry, Sarah keeps a great attitude and stays positive. In “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” the character(s) stay positive even though they are being discriminated thanks to their skin color

“The waitress stares at them in shock”. This shows being different for the reason that they are a different skin color and they won’t serve them. “Mr.Robert, can we sit closer? No, Kenny. Only white folks can sit down there”. This line shows being different because the Watsons don’t have the same rights as whites because they are a different skin color.

Even though both passages share the theme of being different, they use it in a different way because of the attitude of the character. In “Making Sarah Cry” Sarah keeps a great attitude and stays positive. In “The Watsons go to Birmingham’’ the character(s) stay positive even though they are being discriminated thanks to their skin color.

The common theme is being different in both passages. But they both show it differently because of the character(s) attitude. Sarah stays positive and the Watsons stay positive even though they are being treated unfairly. “The Watsons go to Birmingham” uses the theme of being different in a more convincing way because the family is colored and colored people got treated
