Jem is now 12 years old and goes to Calpurnia church with Jean which is hosting a charity for Helen, Tom Robinson wife. Atticus sister, aunt Alexandria, arrive to live with the Finches and teach the children to act as respected citizens. During the night, the children discovers Dill under Jean bed, who ran away from home, but Atticus decide to let him stay. A mob appears twice before Atticus, in the day and night, questioning his reason to defend a color man, Tom Robinson, in court. It was the day of the trial and the sheriff came onto the stand to describe the victim, Mayella, was punch in her right eye. However, Tom rejects Mayella, Bob Ewell seen this occurring and ran into the house screaming, “I’ll kill you whore”. The court is coming to an end and Atticus give his final speech; That all men are not created equal but in the courtroom should be judge as equals. The jury, final verdict, finds Tom Robinson guilty and sentence to prison. The next day, the Maycomb community award Atticus for his efforts yet Bob Ewell despise Atticus and threaten his life. September arrive, and Atticus takes the children to comfort Helen as they receive news of Tom Robinson death in prison. Mr. Link Deas, Tom former boss, give Helen a job in the middle of October however Bob Ewell insults her daily between her travels from home to work. Jean and Jem enjoy themselves in the school Halloween pageant then soon left to walk home in the dark. The children gets attack by a shadowy figure consequently another person comes to their rescue and carry Jem to his house.
