It was the day of the Tom Robinson trial. In the courtroom there are hundreds of people anxiously awaitng. The black and white people are seperated. The blacks are put on the balcony, where it is much hotter. Whille the white people enjoy the main floor of the balon. The Heck Tate is the first witness up on the stands. Under cross-examination, he admits that a doctor was never called to the scene to examine Mayella Ewell. Heck Tate is neutral, he doesn’t say whether he thinks Robinson is guilt or not, but simply tells what happened from his point of view.

Next up on the stands is Bob Ewell, who causes great camossion in the courtroom, because of his foul language and bad attitude. Bob agrees with the description of the injuries that Heck Tata gave, but he has his own explanation of what her saw on that night. Bob explains that on the night of the rape, he was coming out of the woods with a load of kidling when he heard his daughter screaming. When he got to the house, he look inside and saw Tom Robinson raping Mayella. When Tom Robinson saw Bob, he ran away, and Bob Ewell went inside the house to see if his daughter was alright, and ran for the sheriff. Atticus cross examines the case and says that Mr. Ewell could’ve beaten Mayella. Ewell is clearly very against Robinson, but also seems against the world as a whole.

Mr. Gilmer ask her to describe what happened on the evening of the rape, but she dosen’t answer, so Mr. Gilmer asks more specific questions.When asked to identify the man who raped her, Mayella indicates Tom, but Atticus tells him to stand up so that Mayella can have a good look at him. But, when Tom stands up, revealing that his left arm is a foot shorter than his right and his left hand is shriveled, he could not have commited the crime in the way it was
