What is Sexual Abuse?
“Child sexual abuse is a form of child abuse that includes sexual activity with a minor” (Child Sexual Abuse). A child in no state of mind can consent to any type of sexual activity. Any adult who engages is this type of activity is committing a serious crime and can face jail time. When people hear of a child being sexually abused many think that a child was sexually touched by another person but that is not always the case. There are many different forms of sexual abuse which include phone calls, exposing oneself, and pornography. Being sexually abused can affect you physically, emotionally, mentally and can affect you for a short period of time or longer.
How does Sexual Abuse Affect Children?
A child who has been sexually abused will often continue to suffer even after the abuse has stopped. In the areas of mental, physical, and emotion affects it can be obvious to family members, but some of it will not be. As a

Types of Treatment in Counseling
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) TF-CBT is a child and parent therapy approach for children who are experiencing significant emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events. When using this counseling technique the child and parents learn new skills to help process thoughts and feelings related to traumatic life events; manage and resolve distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related traumatic life events.
Play Therapy Play allows the child to express painful feelings through the use of dolls, sand trays, puppets, games, and other toys. “For more than 50 years, therapists have used a variety of play therapy techniques to treat traumatized children, according to the British Association of Play Therapists...” (Miller).
