True Blood: A Sweet Obsession with Vampires When I hear the opening song “Bad Things” a tingling feeling comes over me like no other. My obsession with HBO’s series True Blood began in 2011, a good three years after the first season. I was visiting my parents and my mother was watching an episode of this weird yet thrilling show. While there we watched two episodes together, I asked her if she had the first three seasons on DVD. Of course she did and of course I borrowed them. I took these fascinating looking boxes that contained my new obsession home with me. I started with Season 1 Episode 1: Strange Love; I was instantly hooked, watching episodes back to back when I had down time at home. After just nine days I finished with Season 3 Episode 12: Evil Is Going On.
I then made the decision to add HBO to the channel line up with my cable company. After watching the first few seasons, I knew I needed to continue onto season 4. Seeing as the new season had just begun June of that year, I wasn’t very far behind. In the books there are a few characters that never make an appearance on the tv show. The one who stands out the most is Bubba, he is basically a vampire Elvis. To see Bubba make it into production of the show would have been satisfying for viewers. Some don’t exist, others are killed off far too soon in the books, though they appear as main characters on HBO. The books are narrated by Sookie Stackhouse, in first person. This helps us visualize her life as a telepath. There are many similarities in the book series that we encounter in the show. Sookie has a brother, Jason, in both the tv series and the novels.
