November 11th, also known as Veterans Day, has a special meaning for some people, and I can be considered one of those. While others may consider Veterans Day to be a day off of school, or a day to lower the American flag, I find it to be much more. Due to many family members and friends of mine that hold titles in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Law Enforcement, I have been surrounded by those who care and respect our Veterans, deeply. Throughout my life, I was raised to show complete respect towards any dressed Military personnel, and to always give thanks for their service. In 2012, my uncle, and my single mother’s best friend, passed away while at Fort Bragg, in South Carolina. As stated, my mother was single at the time, and my uncle, Josh, had stepped in to play the role of a dad for me and my brother. …show more content…
A few years later, when I was living with my mother, and her parents, two dressed officers appeared at our house to deliver the awful news. My family has been torn and heartbroken in unmendable ways ever since. Aside from my uncle, Josh, his twin, John, also served, but in the Air Force. My dad works for a Veteran’s Affairs clinic, and my grandfather was a Marine, years ago. While Veteran’s Day may be viewed as a reminder to thank soldiers, it has a far more intense impact on my family and I. We take time every year to visit graves, put out another flag, say more prayers, and thank all who serve. My way of life has been completely impacted by the soldiers who have served for us, and I couldn’t ask for better role models. The integrity, bravery, and honor I have been able to witness and learn from, is hard to compete with. Veteran’s Day is a day to remember the fallen. It is a day to truly feel empathy for those that have passed, working to protect our families and our
