Was Hiroshima Bombing Justified

Based off of the evidence given in this set of documents, the United States should have dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese were given fair warnings of these bombs in several in ways. The bombings also saved many american lives throughout different types or categories of people. One of the pieces of evidence is that these attacks were not uniquely destructive, despite the number of deaths. The following explanations will show why these attacks were justified. First, the American government gave Japan several warnings in many different forms. “Before using this bomb to destroy every resource of the military by which they are prolonging the useless war, we ask that you now petition the Emperor to end the war...” (#22), is an excerpt from leaflets dropped in Japanese cities on August 6, 1945, the day the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Also stated in these leaflets was “thirteen consequences of an honorable surrender…” (#22), as outlined by the president. There are many examples of bombings with the number of deaths nearing the number of Hiroshima and Nagasaki’s combined deaths, such as the bombing of Dresden, Germany. The combined number of deaths from the atomic bombs is 106,000. The total number of deaths from the Dresden bombing is 100,000. Many other bombings, such as German attacks on England in the second world war and attacks on Tokyo with conventional bombs have death totals that also come close to the combined deaths of the atomic bombs. All of the evidence provided shows why the United States was justified in dropping the atomic bombs. The government issued several warnings that were greatly ignored by the Japanese. The government was doing its job by saving american lives, which is the main priority. Finally, the bombings were, again, not uniquely
