Thomas Paine was a very responsible man. He was key for the state's responsibility for education and welfare provision. After his first wife died he took responsibility in his own hands and used his father-in-law's support to start a career in the excise service. However, he later worked as an officer in 1762. In 1765 was fired for stamping and providing certificates for non inspected goods. After accepting and acknowledging his mistake he wrote an apology and was re-admissioned back into the force. Paine also seeked for help and collaborated with Nicholas Bonneville and Marquis de Condorcet to make a republican public declaration of policy on the walls of Paris against most of the National Assembly. He clearly believed and stuck to his opinions.
