Mrs. Brandt is a professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who has studied how people become literate and the aspects of society that affect how and what people read. She stated that the aspects of society are the sponsors. Sponsors can be people, institutions,circumstances, and ideas that make it possible for a person to be able to read and write and also those sponsors shapes the way that person actually acquires literacy. Most people think that literacy is just having the ability to read and write. But literacy is more than just knowing how to read and write. There are many forms of literacy such as Digital Literacy (Cognitive skills that are used in executing tasks in digital environments),Political Literacy (Knowledge and skills needed to actively participate in political matters), and Visual Literacy (The ability to critically read images). …show more content…
