Why Spanish Should Be Taught In Public Schools

My topic is Spanish should be a mandatory course in public schools. Im against it because in the article ‘Some students can't, don't want to learn another language’ by Gheni Platenburg it says ”Americans are not fluently competent in the English language, meaning they can not read and write at at least a sixth grade level. If 52 percent of americans can't even read or write at past the 6th grade level how can we learn another language if we can't even understand our own language. In order to learn a new language we have to first make sure we know our own language then go and learn a different language. That's just going to be harder and make our standard lower. Also it may bring our scores down because we're doing two things at a time. It will just add to the stress of learning two things at once. Also it will likely make our scores low because we're not focused on just one language. Also the article says "When native Spanish speaking students learn the textbook style of Spanish, they also have difficulties because it bears little resemblance to what they speak." In the article it states "I can't pronounce the words, and I don't understand it.” If you can't pronounce the words people are most likely to not even learn it because it to difficult and they would feel embarrassed if they say the words the wrong way. From not being able to pronounce the words it's more difficult to learn the word because u dont fully understand. Also there is no way to make it easier so it will just be the same as it was before. It will eventually get harder as u start to learn more. Some if not most people hate to be embarrassed. So more people will not want to speak it and if they don't want to speak it they wouldn't want to learn more or even
