The definition of the word "thankful", as taken from merriamwebsterdictionary.com, is "conscious of benefit received; expressive of thanks; well pleased, glad." (1) As the holiday and festivities of Thanksgiving quickly approach, it is good not only to start preparing the abundance of delicious food, but also to look upon all of the blessings God has given us and express our gratefulness. (2) Things like Thanksgiving, where people generally reflect on the good things in their lives, help to bring into perspective the things that people might unknowingly take for granted in everyday life. (1) Family is important to me because we are always there for each other. (2) Even though we may get on each others' nerves sometimes, we know at the end of the day that we all support each other and love each other. (3) That is a strong bond and unit that is rare to attain with anyone else other than close family. (4) I am very glad that I have had the family that I have to raise me and teach me as I have grown up and continue to grow up. (5) I know that no matter what is happening or going on, my family is always there with whom I may talk. (6) My family, my parents in particular, have taught me many invaluable lessons and morals that without, I don't know where I would be. (1) This is something which we can sometimes take for granted as Americans because we have it without having to think about it at times, or for the many of us, personally fight for it. (2) However, this Thanksgiving holiday I would like to take the time to think about the soldiers who have risked and sacrificed their lives for our freedom. (3) I know that this price was not an easy one to pay for them, their families and loved ones, and their friends. (4) They did the brave and courageous thing so that we may be safe and have the freedoms we enjoy today. (5) Some soldiers return from battle physically unharmed but mentally they are scarred with such illnesses such as PTSD from the horrors of war. (6) I will be thinking of them this holiday season and hoping that as they return home they can find jobs and get the help they need. (7) This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for our freedom and cognizant of the price that it took to achieve it and keep attaining it.
